China Mission Trip: Day 1

China Mission Trip: Day 1

by admin

After a 16 hour flight from Newark and 24 hours of traveling, we arrived finally to the YMCA at about 10 pm local time on Saturday. Needless to say, we were exhausted! Fortunately, we found out we weren’t leaving for Hengyang until Monday. Team China was lucky to site see all over Hong Kong on Sunday. We met with our team for orientation and dinner, our last American-like meal including pasta and pizza!

We are bound on a coach tomorrow for 4 hours and then on a high speed train for 2 hours (250 miles/hour!). Our team is made up of people from Canada, Australia, and England.

During the following days in Hengyang, we will be working with the children in ICC (International China Concern) and the Chinese welfare center. It sounds like every effort we make will be rewarded with a child’s progress. Our team leader has stated that in each visit a team makes, the children develop significantly. We are excited to share our talents and make a difference in these children’s lives.

Things we learned about Hong Kong:

1) The scaffolding is made of bamboo,

2) The spoken language is Cantonese,

3) How to say thank you is phonetically pronounced “mmmm goi”

4) The American dollar is worth approximately 7 Hong Kong dollars.

    Hi Cole China Team,
Thanks so much for the info you sent from your work in China thus far. We received an update in our managers meeting from Teresa Anthony. I want to let you know we are praying for you all. Mission work is such a bitter sweet thing in that you feel like such a small light in the midst of overwhelming needs. I don’t think that you can ever really be prepared for the mission field and what you find there but know that you are making a difference! Those babies will never be any better if their care takers are not trained on how to help them and meet their needs. A drop in a bucket doesn’t feel like much but there is a rippling effect after that drop hits the water. You may never know the impact you had on them. Even if there is only one life changed, it is worth it! May God bless you and keep you!

  13. Pamela Walker says:

  15. Vikki Johnson says:

Hi to all! I am praying for you all and know that this experience will challenge you but make you stronger as clinicians and of course grow as a person!! I hear there have been some tough kids. I know you all will do great with these kids and they are blessed to have you. In my prayers!!! Vikki Johnson

  16. Erica Hayes says:

China Team!!! Thanks so much for sharing the start of your journey with us, can’t wait to hear more from you!!! I pray that all goes smoothly for the team, children and families. In every new challenge you may face daily, be sure to embrace the opportunity so that you can continue making a tremendous impact on the lives of all whom you encounter! May the grace of God be with you. Be blessed!

  17. Rebecca says:

WOW! Good morning girls – I am praying for you guys. I have post before but don’t see them so I hope you are getting my messages. Wishing you all a truly awesome day filled with accomplishments and wonder at the magnificent hands of God. Looking forward to more posts!

  18. Dani says:

Wishing you guys an exciting adventure and know that you are touching the lives of those children in a way beyond measure.

  19. sheree says:

Girls you are such an amazing inspiration. One of my favorite Mother Teresa quotes is this:
“We have been created for greater things, not just to be a number in the world, not just to go for diplomas and degrees, this work and that work. We have been created in order to love and to be loved.”
And you guys are living it. You are showing love and affection to kids who might have otherewise never experienced true compassion, humbleness, and a selfless love in their lifes. Your showing them that a total stranger thinks they are special enough, they mean enough to be helped. That is greater and more rewarding then any degree, material thing or accomplishment. That has eternal value that can not ever wither away. Be proud of yourselves, stay strong, and know we are praying for you! “In our weakness He makes us strong”; and I know God will use you guys in amazing ways!!

  20. Tracy Imbach says:

I am glad to hear you all arrived safely, have enjoyed Hong Kong and are traveling to Hengyang. Thank you for all you are doing. I am so excited for your journey ahead. God’s blessing on each of you.

  21. Stephannie says:

    Hello Everyone!
For the first time in 5 days, the internet is working in my hotel room and I can finally read all your thoughtful and inspiring messages. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much. This trip has been a challenge, no doubt, but as sad and heartwrenching as it’s been, I still have much, much hope. ICC is an incredible organization and I can’t wait to share all that they have accomplised with you. This trip has been life-changing for all three of us and we are so grateful for this opportunity. It is hard to believe that we have to leave the children on Tuesday. That will definitely be the most difficult day yet…Wish us luck and pray hard for these children. Thank you so much everyone. We will see you all soon!!
    ~Stephannie
